residencies

Residencies are designed for writers, illustrators, and researchers who want to get sustained, uninterrupted work done. You might work at the desk in your room or at the communal table in the two-story library, in the light-filled Calf Barn studio or the cavernous hayloft, on a sunny balcony or under the shade of the open-air barn, or in any number of secluded nooks and corners.

You can recharge with yoga in the hayloft, a leisurely hike in Milkwood’s 20+ acres of wildflower meadows and hardwood forest, a game of ping-pong in the open-air barn, a dip in a secret swimming hole, a visit to the antiquarian bookshops in neighboring Hobart, a bike ride along local backroads, or a walk on the nearby 26-mile Catskill Scenic Trail.

Residencies run for one week, from Monday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. Milkwood can accommodate 10 residents at a time. You can apply as an individual, as a pair, or as a group of 10.

The cost of a residency includes accommodations, a welcome dinner on Monday night, and breakfast on Tuesday. All other meals are self-catered. We will supply basic pantry essentials - coffee, tea, olive oil, spices and condiments, etc. - and residents can purchase all other food at supermarkets, specialty shops, and farmstands in nearby Stamford (10 minutes), Delhi (20 minutes), or Oneonta (30 minutes). Residents prepare their own meals in Milkwood’s large farmhouse kitchen and have use of the refrigerator, dishwasher, and 8-burner stove and 2-compartment oven, as well as all pots, pans, tableware, and appliances.

Single rooms are $1,200 per week for residencies.
Two bedrooms offer the possibility of double occupancy, at $850 per week per person for residencies.
The cost for a group of 10 is $10,000.
